The UFCF Youth Innovation & Empowerment Initiative (YIEI) is an extension of the primary Future Leaders United (FLU) after-school enrichment and mentoring program. FLU is the core program; YIEI adds further opportunities for students to deepen their interests, apply new skills, and explore future pathways.
YIEI’s program design brings innovation and STEAM learning together with academic support, college navigation, digital literacy, career exposure, financial capability, health and wellness, civic leadership, and family engagement.
Connected experiences for students and families
YIEI is designed around hands-on, cohort-based experiences that can include projects, learning practicums, career conversations, service, wellness activities, and family learning. Its delivery model includes after-school and summer enrichment, primarily in person, with limited hybrid supports for family engagement and career-readiness activities.
What the extension can include
- Hands-on STEAM, innovation, and digital learning
- Academic tutoring and college readiness, including FAFSA and admissions navigation
- Workforce exploration, simulations, and early career exposure
- Financial literacy and certification coursework
- Leadership development, civic engagement, and service learning
- Mental health, wellness, and life-skills workshops
- Family engagement that supports intergenerational stability
Learning, feedback, and improvement
The YIEI design uses attendance, pre- and post-program assessments, academic progress, certifications, workforce outcomes, and student and parent feedback to understand progress and improve programming.
YIEI builds from FLU’s focus on trusted relationships, student strengths, high expectations, and meaningful preparation for life after high school.
